Madison Goldberg Wins SCAC Championship, Pirates Place Second

BLANCO, Texas — Madison Goldberg won the SCAC individual championship, and the Southwestern women's golf team took second place with a score of 653, trailing Trinity University by eight strokes.

Southwestern opened the day with a one-stroke lead but fell off their first-round pace, scoring a 334 after posting a 319 yesterday. All five Pirates finished in the top 10, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Tigers, who placed three in the top five.

Goldberg scored an 82 on the second day to lead Southwestern, banking a large enough lead in the first round to hold off Trinity's Raquel Hill by one stroke, winning the event with a score of 154. Goldberg led the field with six birdies and 21 pars.

Ryleigh Erickson scored an 85, finishing tied with teammate Madison Miller for seventh place with 167. Linsey Garza and Katherine Montgomery each finished the event with a 171, tied for ninth place.

Trinity won the event with a score of 654. St. Thomas finished in third, scoring a 680. Schreiner scored a 795 to finish fourth, and Centenary shot an 833 to finish fifth.

Goldberg won First Team All-SCAC honors. Miller, Erickson, Garza, and Montgomery were named to the second team.
