Women's Golf Leads Lowery Invitational After First Day

LAKEWAY, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team sits in first place after the first day at the Linda Lowery Invitational at the Yaupon Golf Club.

Southwestern shot a combined 337 in the first round, outpacing host school Concordia University (340) by three strokes. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (351) and Emory University (354) are currently in third and fourth, respectively.

Emily Campbell scored an 81 to lead the Pirates' five-woman lineup, finishing the day third on the individual leaderboard at nine over par. Madison Miller scored an 82 to finish tied for fourth while Madison Goldberg rounded out the members of the five-woman lineup to finish in the top 10 with a score of 86.

Linsey Garza (88) finished the day 14th and Leilani McDaniel (93) sits in a tie for 16th. Southwestern golfer Sarah Lucido, competing as an individual in this event, scored an 80 to finished second overall on the individual leaderboard.

Southwestern has won three of the four events it has participated in so far this season, winning both events in which it led after the first round. The Pirates will finish the invitational tomorrow.
