Women's Golf Ends Second Day of Golfweek Invitational in Eighth

SANDESTIN, Fla. — With one round remaining, the Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team fell off first-round pace, scoring a 323 to drop from second to eighth place with a 637 at the Golfweek Fall Invitational. 

Madison Goldberg started strong, finishing two over par through the front nine after finishing one over in the first round. She struggled down the stretch, however, scoring a quadruple-bogey on hole 16 and a double-bogey on 17 to score a 79 for a combined total of 152, good for a tie in eighth place. 

She did finish off with a birdie on 18, a 372-yard Par 4, bringing her two-day birdie total to seven.

Senior Leilani McDaniel made a big move, improving her first-round score by five strokes to score a 79 to bring her two-day total up to 163, climbing 14 spots in the leaderboard in a tie for 41st. First year Linsey Garza also improved by five strokes, scoring an 80 to bring her score down to 165, tied for 52nd with teammate Sarah Lucido. Senior Emily Cambell had a rough day, scoring an 89, to finish with a score of 166 in a tie for 57th place. 

Carnegie Mellon remains in first place, shooting a 296 on the second day for a total of 605; holding two of the top three individual spots. Bailey Plourde of Centre College remains in first on the individual leaderboard with a two-day score of 143, finishing one under par. 

Southwestern has converted the second-most pars so far with 100, paced by Goldberg's 24. She also leads the Pirates with five birdies. Round 3 begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
