Women's Golf In Second Place After First Day of Golfweek Fall Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. — The Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team had a strong first round at the Golfweek Fall Invitational, scoring a 314 to end the day tied for second with (16) Wisconsin-Whitewater, trailing only (7) Carnegie Mellon. 

Sophomore Madison Goldberg paced the Pirates by shooting one over par at 73, good for second place on the individual leaderboard. Goldberg led the field in birdies with four (Holes 12, 15, 17, and 18) to offset two double bogeys on holes 10 and 13 with another bogey on 5. 

Senior Emily Campbell was solid, finishing with 13 pars (tied for second-best in that category) to tie for 10th place with a 77 to finish five over. 

First year Sarah Lucido finished in the top 30 at 27th, scoring an 80 with one birdie. Senior Leilani McDaniel shot an 84 to finish tied for 55th and first year Linsey Garza tied for 58th at 85. 

Centre College's Bailey Plourde leads the field at 72, one stroke ahead of Goldberg, to finish even par on the day. Carnegie Mellon is five strokes ahead of Southwestern with a combined score of 309, posting three golfers in the top 10 so far. Play will resume tomorrow.
