Women's Golf Wins Third Consecutive Event

GLEN ROSE, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team won its third consecutive event, placing first overall at the Lady Crusader Fall Invitational. 

Southwestern led from start to finish, following up its event-leading 307 in the first round with an event-best 298 in the second, setting a team record for lowest round total. With a combined score of 605, the Pirates finished 29 over par and 30 strokes ahead of second-place Hardin-Simmons University.

Madison Goldberg had the best round of the Invitational with a 70 on the second day for a combined score of 144, breaking even on par to finish first on the individual leaderboard.

Goldberg led the field with eight birdies and converted 22 pars, finishing two under in Par 4 scoring and breaking even on Par 5 scoring.

Emily Campbell and Sarah Lucido made moves up the leaderboard, each scoring a 74 in the second round to finish third and fourth. Campbell shot a combined 151 to finish seven over par, improving on her first-day 77 score to move up to third from sixth. 

Lucido improved by six strokes from the first round, moving up to fourth all the way from 13th at eight over par and finishing with seven birdies.

Leilani McDaniel finished tied for eighth with Texas-Dallas' Marissa Langer, scoring a 156 at 12 over par. Linsey Garza held steady, scoring 80 on both days to finish tied for 14th.

The No. 22-ranked Pirates will travel to Destin, Florida to compete in the Golfweek Fall Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12.
