Pirates Win The TLU Lady Bulldog Fall Golf Classic

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team opened its season with a victory, taking a first-place finish at the Texas Lutheran University Lady Bulldog Fall Classic. 

Southwestern shot a round-best 310 on the second day, ending the event with a two-round score of 616; finishing 16 strokes ahead of second-place University of Texas Dallas, who finished with a 632. 

Karen Alvarez of UT-Dallas won the individual event, finishing six over par at 150, tying with TLU's Summer Swift but winning on tie-breakers. The Pirates placed three of the top five, led by Emily Campbell's 152 after scoring a round-best 75 on the second day to finish fourth.

Newcomers Linsey Garza and Madison Goldberg finished in a thee-way tie for fourth alongside UC Santa Cruz's Gillian Mendoza with a 153. Sarah Lucido shot a 158 to finish ninth and Leilani McDaniel followed in 10th with a 159.

Southwestern will travel to Hobbs, New Mexico next week to compete in the Rockwind Links Intercollegiate, starting Saturday, Sep. 14.
