Pirates sit in striking distance at Lady Bulldog Classic

BLANCO, Texas – The Southwestern University women's golf team opened action at the Lady Bulldog Classic Monday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club and sit in second place after first round action.

The Pirates were led by Bernice Leonard and Ali Walden who each fired a first round 81. Leonard and Walden both sit tied for fourth and are just four strokes off the individual lead held by Concordia's Shelby Allen.

Keeley Coburn and Lauren Boone both sit tied for 13th and look to move into the top 10 after each shooting an 81.

Mary Hardin-Baylor sits 14 strokes ahead of the Pirates in first place after a team score of 322 on day one. Concordia checks in behind Southwestern in third with a total of 349 as Hardin-Simmons finished day one with a 353.

Tuesday's final round from Vaaler Creek Golf Club is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
