Coburn Ties for Seventh; Pirates Take Seventh at NCAA Championships

Destin, Fla. - Senior Kelsey Coburn finished her collegiate career with a bang, tying for seventh place at the DIII NCAA Championships. The Southwestern women's team also finished in seventh at the event. 

Coburn posted the lowest round for the Pirates on the first two days with a 76-78 and finished strong with a 76 after shooting an 82 on day three. Her 312 strokes put her in a tie for seventh and 16 strokes behind the winner, Laura Lindsey of UT Tyler. 

Karissa Speck (84-79-78-75) got stronger every day and shot the lowest round of the tournament for the Pirates on the final day (75). She tied with teammate Bernice Leonard for 15th place with 316 strokes. Leonard was consistent all tournament with a 78-79-80-79. 

Lauren Boone's 348 (83-90-87-88) positioned her tied for 82nd at the end of the tournament while Keeley Coburn rounded out the Pirate effort with 349 strokes (86-92-85-86) and tied for 87th. 

This was Southwestern's seventh trip to the NCAA Championships. They posted their highest finish in 2008, bringing home third place honors.
