Women's Golf Takes Sixth Against Top National Teams

DESTIN, Fla. - Southwestern knew they would be challenged at the Golf Week Preview but fared-well at the invitation-only event. 

Bernice Leonard led the charge most of the tournament for the Pirates and was joined by Karissa Speck after she shot the lowest round of the tournament for the Pirates the final day. Leonard (79-80-83) and Speck (85-80-77) ended teid for 14th with 242 strokes. L. Giovannettone of Methodist and Taylor O'Rear of UMHB tied for the lead with a 225. 

Kelsey Coburn had a very consistent tournament and was just one stroke behind wth a 243 (81-82-80) and in 21st place. 

Keeley Coburn made drastic improvements throughout the event and ended tied for 38th with 252 strokes (87-85-80). Laurn Boone rounded out the top five for Southwestern with a 40th place finish with 253 strokes (82-88-83). 

Defending champion Methodist University won the event with a combined score of 922. 

The Golf Week Preview marks the end of the fall season for SU. They return to the links on February 25th at the UMHB Invitational in Killeen, Texas.
