Southwestern takes SCAC opener 77-69 in OT

IRVING, Texas - Southwestern scored 19 points in the five minute overtime frame to defeat the University of Dallas 77-69 to begin Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday evening. 

Cecily Woolfolk's jumper with 37 seconds left brought the Pirates within one and then followed it with the game tying free throw with two seconds remaining. SU held off the Crusader's final attempt, keeping UD from getting a shot off before the buzzer. 

Southwestern got right after it in the extra frame with Madison Edwards scoring the first five points to put SU up 63-58. The Pirates outscored UD 19-11 in overtime to seal the 77-69 win. 

The Pirates shot 40% from the floor and three point range and was led by Olivia Podaras with 21 points. Edwards added in 16 and Woolfolk 13 while Tori Carraway posted a double-double with 10 ponts and a game-high 14 rebounds. 

Dallas was forced into 17 turnovers while the Pirates committed just 10. 

Southwestern (4-8, 1-0) remains in SCAC action to face Colorado College (2-11, 1-1) on Sunday at 1 pm in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
