Fourth-quarter spurt allows Southwestern to pull away from Colorado College, 71-55

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Audrey Garcia scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter which helped the Southwestern women's basketball team pull away from Colorado College for a 71-55 victory on Saturday night at the Robertson Center.

Garcia, who also logged four rebounds, four steals, four assists and a block, hit seven free throws in the final period for the Pirates (7-11, 4-3 SCAC).

Southwestern held a 42-41 edge as the fourth quarter started.

Madison Edwards completed a traditional three-point play after drawing a foul on a layup to push the lead to four points with 8:49 to play.

Two minutes later, the Tigers (2-17, 1-7 SCAC) pulled within two after Katie Wirth hit a jumper. The Pirates responded in a big way, reeling off a 10-2 run that was fueled by seven points from Brianna Turney to take a 10-point lead.

Colorado College was able to trim the lead to 63-55, but was forced to foul, sending Garcia to the charity stripe six times in the final 26 seconds. The senior guard was able to seal the contest, making all six of the free throws. Olivia Podaras also added a layup with 15 seconds remaining.

Southwestern, which has won four of its last five contests, forced 30 turnovers.

Garcia was joined in double figures by Tori Carraway (16 points), Podaras (11) and Turney (11).

The Pirates will hit the road on Friday, Jan. 29, to face Centenary.
