Bourne sets SCAC career rebounding record on senior night

With 12 rebounds on senior night, Annie Bourne moved atop the SCAC in career rebounds with 1090 for her career. Even more impressive, Bourne is averaging 11.0 rebounds per game for her career. Katy Williams who played at Austin College from 2006-2010 was the previous record holder with 1083 career rebounds.

Austin College was strong to start, but Southwestern quickly regrouped in the first half to lead 34-23. The Pirates led by as many as 13 and never trailed after taking the lead with 14:07 to go in the half. Jordan Owens led with nine points, going a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Bourne ended the half with seven rebounds.

The Pirates never let up in the second half as they had total command of every facet of the game. With nine minutes to play Southwestern had extended their lead to 25, 58-33. Schreiner then got hot and hit three consecutive three-pointers, including two from Brooke Sanders, to cut the Pirates' lead to 16, 60-44.

Southwestern got hot again and cruised to the 72-55 final with multiple fast break layups. Southwestern shot 48.1% from the floor and 35.7% from three point range while holding Schreiner to 35% from the floor and 32% from long range.

Owens led all scorers with 22 points on the night while going a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Bourne added in 13 and Madison Eschle 11. Sabriyyah Fennell led Schreiner with 14 points.

Six seniors played their final home game on Saturday, McKamie Place, Owens, Bourne, Lashelle Williams, Valerie Logan and Eschle. 

The Pirates improve to 11-11 on the year and 9-2 in the SCAC, securing a spot in the SCAC Championship while remaining in first place. Schreiner falls to 9-12 overall and 7-4 in conference play. SU returns to the road to face Colorado College in Colorado Spring on Friday night at 7 pm CST.
