Southwestern committed 17 first half turnovers and 27 for the game but pulled out a 57-50 win over Trinity at home on Friday night to move into first place in the SCAC with an 8-2 record. Annie Bourne posted 18 rebounds in the game to move within five rebounds of the all-time SCAC career record.

A frigid start to the game saw just 18 points between the two teams in the first 10 minutes of the game. Things didn't improve for either team offensively for the remainder of the half as Trinity took a slight 27-22 lead into the locker room. Trinity capitalized on the 17 first half Pirate turnovers.

Annie Bourne posted 9 rebounds in the half whole Lashelle Williams and Bourne each had six points to lead the way.

Southwestern pulled within one point early in the second half, but struggled to get over the hump. With 5:13 to play Madison Eschle hit a runner in the lane to pull the Pirates within one once again, 43-42. Audrey Garcia drained a three from the right wing to tie the game and Bourne pulled down a huge board and was fouled and converted both free throws to put SU on top 47-45 for the first time in the second half.

The Pirates secured rebounds on the defensive end after forcing tough Tiger shots and took care of business from the free throw line on the other end to extend their lead to six, 51-45.

Southwestern continued their strong free throw shooting and defense to close out the game for the win.

Bourne led the way with 12 points and 18 rebounds and sits at 1078 for her career and seems poised to set the all-time career record at home on senior day Saturday.

Eschle led the Pirates in scoring with 15 points while also grabbing nine boards. Williams added in 13. Richardson led TU with 15 points as the Tigers were held to 33.9% from the floor and 19.4% from three point range and 33.3% from the free throw line.

Southwestern dominated the glass 52-23 and was the reason the Pirates were able to overcome the turnovers.

SU remains at home to face Schreiner University on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
