Women’s basketball returns to winning ways with hot shooting

Southwestern shot 51.9% from the floor and 43.5 percent from three point range to defeat Austin College 79-75 on Saturday in Sherman.

The Pirates fell behind early but Audrey Garcia's three with 5:34 remaining in the half tied the game 26-26. Southwestern took a four point lead into the break, 37-33.

Southwestern led the entirety of the second half despite Dallas pulling close numerous times. Ultimately, SU hung on for the win 79-75 with a last-second three form Christina Kime.

Jordan Owens led all scorers with 25 points on 9-14 shooting from the floor and 2-2 from three point range. Annie Bourne added in 21 and Madison Eschle 13. Kime led AC with 22 points.

SU was out-rebounded 36-32 in the win but got 15 points from the charity stripe while AC earned just six.

Now 7-11 on the year and 5-2 in the SCAC, Southwestern returns home to begin the second half of conference play. They take on the University of Dallas on Friday night in Georgetown at 6 p.m.
