Pirates Push SCAC Win Streak to Six

SHERMAN, Texas - With a 73-56 win over Austin College on Saturday night the Southwestern women's basketball team moved to 12-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.

It was all Southwestern in the first half as they took the lead off the opening tip and never looked back, pushing their lead to 10 on an Audrey Garcia three-pointer six and a half minutes into the frame. SU watched the lead balloon to 19 with just over three minutes remaining and took a 12 point lead, 39-27, into the locker room at halftime.

Austin College hung around and had fight left in them for the second half and cut the Pirates lead all the way down to five, 49-44, with 13:09 on the clock.

Valerie Logan's layup on the next possession kicked off a much needed scoring streak for Southwestern as the Pirates got their lead back to 14 with 6:31 to go. SU cruised the rest of the way and hit their free throws down the stretch to take the comfortable 17 point win.

Chelsea Leeder led all scorers with 24 points, going 10-20 from the field and 4-9 from three point range. Annie Bourne had a huge night on both ends of the floor with 19 points and 19 rebounds in the win. Logan added in 10 points.

Southwestern shot 40.6% from the floor while holding AC to 38.2% and just 27.3% from three point range.

The Pirates remain in first place in the conference with the win while Austin College falls to 7-10 overall, 1-6 in the SCAC. Head Coach Kerri Brinkoeter will search for her 150th career victory next week as Southwestern faces SCAC-rival Trinity in San Antonio on Saturday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
