Huge Second Half Vaults Pirates to Win

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern allowed just 21 second half points to defeat the University of Dallas 84-55. 

The Pirates took the lead in the first 30 seconds and never let go despite UD hanging close in the first half. With second chance opportunities, the Crusaders trailed by only two points, 36-34 at halftime. 

With a steady onslaught of pressure, Southwestern saw their lead balloon to 15 points half way through the second half and continued on. 

During the next five and a half minutes of play, SU embarked on a 21-2 run to push their lead to 30, 76-46, and were never threatened as they closed out the game for the 84-55 win. 

SU shot 50.8% from the floor while holding the Crusaders to just 32.3%. The Pirate also outrebounded UD 47-36. 

Chelsea Leeder led all scorers with 21 points while Jordan Owens added in 16 and Audrey Garcia 10. Annie Bourne was all over the boards with a game high 14 rebounds. The University of Dallas awas led by Emily Maddens' 12 points. 

The win improves the Pirates to 10-4 on the year and 4-0 in the SCAC while UD falls to 5-7 and 0-4. They return to action on Friday night in Shreveport, La. facing Centenary College at 6 p.m.
