Owens Ties SU Scoring Record in Pirate Win

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Sophomore forward Jordan Owens tied the Southwestern scoring record with 32 points as Southwestern defeated Texas Lutheran 83-69 on Saturday evening.

TLU got on the board first but Southwestern quickly responded and methodically built a double-digit lead from the free throw line and by dominating the boards in the first half. The Pirates pulled down 33 rebounds while the Bulldogs managed just 17. Owens posted 17 points in the opening frame, going 2-2 from three point range and 5-6 from the charity stripe and sent Southwestern into the break up 41-27.

Just as the night before, SU had a big surge to open the second half and pushed their lead to 20 points three minutes in. The Pirates stayed comfortably out of reach of the Bulldogs as they closed out the game for the 83-69 win.

Owens led all scorers with 32 points while Chelsea Leeder added in 21. Annie Bourne once again dominated the boards, pulling down 19 rebounds while posting 10 points in the win. Leeder added in a game high 8 assists and five steals.

Southwestern moves to 2-0 on the season after the win. They hit the road for the first time this season in a rematch of Friday night's game, facing Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night in Belton. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
