Men's track & field takes third at UIW Spring Break Classic

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern closed out their spring break week with a trip to San Antonio to compete in the University of Incarnate Word Classic. The Pirates finished in third place. 

Devin Ross got Southwestern off on a high note with a first place finish in the high jump. He cleared 1.93 meters and his closest Division III finisher was .10 meters behind him. 

Tyler Adams started Southwestern out strong with a win in the hammer throw. Adams' toss of 43.25 meters was second to only Jodan Huckaby who was competing unattached. Sam Grubbs finished in seventh in the event with a throw of 40.12 meters.

Adams also posted a top five finish in the discus, logging a throw of 38.24 meters and took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.30 meteres. 

On the track, John Hattan and had a top ten finish in the 1500 with a time of 4:20.58. Miles Griffin snagged a fourth place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:08.07 while the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relays of Brandon Jennings, Greg McDade, Brian McCutcheon and Tyrell Dunlap also finished fourth overall. 

The Pirates head to Abilene next weekend to face McMurry University on Friday.
