Record Set at UIW Invitational

Record Set at UIW Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Joey Quintero broke the Southwestern record in the discus with a distance of 34.00 meters.  Several other Pirates had performances that put them atop the SCAC leader board over the weekend as well.

The Pirates had a great showing in the field events.  In the shot put, Owen Cassidy (10.35 meters and a personal best) and Joey Quintero (10.10 meters) posted throws at the Invitational that placed them at #1 and #2 in the SCAC.  Quintero's record setting performance in the discus currently has him ranked #2 in conference.  Daniel Poole (47.75 meters) placed 7th of 17 competitors in the javelin and was 1st out of D-III athletes.  In the pole vault, Cody Taylor (3.99 meters) took 7th out of 14 and was also the top D-III finisher.  Both Poole and Taylor currently lead the conference in their respective events.

Southwestern fared well on the track too.  Paden Williams is currently the top SCAC runner in the Men's 800 and 1500 and was the top D-III finisher in both events at UIW.  On the women's side, Lilly Duarte took over the top spot in the SCAC Women's 800 and 1500 based on her performances at the Invitational.

The Pirates travel to Stephenville, Texas to participate in the Tarleton Relays on March 7th.
