Men's Tennis Sweeps Centenary in Final Regular Season Match

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Southwestern University Pirate men's tennis team turned to the depth of its bench in a 9-0 victory over the Centenary Gentlemen.

Hunter Bajoit and Carlos Esteban Rodero surrendered a single point in an 8-1 victory over Kevin Le and Max Wamsley from the No. 1 spot as the only Pirates to operate from their regular spot. Southwestern would not surrender another with Alonso Fernandez and Jeremy Wilson picking up an 8-0 victory over Nathan Lim and Divine Martin in the No. 2 spot and Tashawn Treadwell and Tyler Norman doing the same over Tobias Therkelsen and Miguel Vasquez.

"Jeremy and Alonso were outstanding, as were Tashawn and Tyler in doubles to give us the huge boost going into singles," Head Coach Billy Porter said.

Southwestern won all six of its singles matches in double 6-0 straight sets. Rodero defeated Le in a rare appearance in the No. 1 spot with Pearson besting Wamsley at No. 2 and Fernandez winning against Lim in the No. 3. Tyler Norman, Wilson, and Treadwell picked up victories in rare appearances in the 4, 5, and 6 spots.

"Max Pearson continued his recent run of dominance with another solid performance in singles," Porter said. "And I couldn't have imagined a better finish for Alonso Fernandez's career than getting the clinch in his final match. I'm so happy for him."

With the victory, the Pirates improve to 14-4 on the season. With Matches against East Texas Baptist cancelled, the Pirates will return to the court on Saturday, April 20 at the SCAC Conference Championships hosted by Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
