Men's Tennis Falls to Redlands in Final Game of California Road Trip

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team closed out its California road trip with a 6-3 loss to Redlands.

Southwestern University's struggles in doubles popped up once more, dropping all three matches with Hunter Bajoit and Alexis Dimanche losing 8-2 in the No. 1 spot; Alexander Joseph and Dean Dulthummon falling 8-5 in the No. 2 spot; and Vesko Lekovic and Carlos Esteban Roder falling 8-6 in the third spot.

"Doubles killed us yet again as we put ourselves in a huge hole," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "It's unfortunate as broke at both 2 and 3 at 5-7 only to be broken back and giving up the match with that."

Southwestern recovered in the No. 1-3 spots in singles, defeating three-time NCAA qualifier Chase Lipscomb with a 7-5 tiebreaker in the first set and riding the momentum towards a 6-1 victory in the second. Bajoit, Dimanche's doubles teammate, also recovered with a 10-8 tiebreaker in the first set and 7-5 victory in the second.

"Alexis got back in the win column over a three-time NCAA qualifier and attacked aggressively, which was an area he got away from a bit at Steg-Hen," Porter said. "And as shaky as Hunter was in doubles today, it was impressive for him to bounce back the way he did in singles as he continues to play well in that No. 2 spot."

Alexander Joseph won in straight sets over Brad Cummins in the third spot but the Pirates dropped matches 4-6 in straight sets to fall to 9-3 on the season. The Pirates will host Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday, March 27 at 5:00 p.m.
