Pirates Suffer First Loss of the Season

CLAREMONT, Cali. – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 8-1 to Bowdoin in its first match at the Stag Hen Invitational.

Southwestern managed its lone victory in doubles with Alexander Joseph and Dulthummon defeating Larry Zhao and Justin Wang 8-4. Alexis Dimanche and Hunter Bajoit lost 8-1 and Carlos Esteban Rodero and Tashawn Treadwell fell 8-3.

"Alex and Dean had such a big win against a team known for their great doubles," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "We played fearless tennis and lost to a better team."

Dimanche took Grant Urken to three sets in the No. 1 spot but ultimately fell short, winning the first one 6-4 and falling 1-6 in the second and 2-6 in the third. The rest of the Pirates fell in straight sets with Vesko Lekovic putting in a valiant effort losing 6-3 in both.

"I was impressed with Vesko in his first singles action of the season," Porter said.
