Men's Tennis Defeats Occidental

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team recovered from a slow start in doubles, taking all of the singles matches to defeat Occidental 7-2 at home.

The Pirates' Hunter Bajoit and Alexis Dimanche dropped the first doubles set 8-7 against Cameron Coe and Lucas Chmielewski in the No. 1 spot. Alexander Joseph and Dean Dulthummon recovered to defeated Ivan Derrick and Christian Anderson 8-3 in the second but Alonso Fernandez and Vesko Lekovic dropped the third doubles match.

Southwestern University's Dimanche got in trouble in the first set in singles but took the tiebreaker, then won the second set 6-3. Bajoit, Joseph, and Dulthummon each took matches in straight sets and Max Pearson and Carlos Rodero each won in three sets.

"We did not play good doubles at all. Frankly, we came out flat, played scared, and just had way too many errors," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "The entire match shifted when Alexis took the first set in the breaker as it gave us four sets on all four courts.

"Max and Carlos were both tested and found a way to prevail against two solid opponents."

With the win, the Pirates improved to 7-0 on the season. Southwestern will host Connecticut College on Wednesday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m.
