Five Pirates garner All-SCAC accolades on Wednesday

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Five Southwestern University men's tennis players garnered postseason All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Nickoloz Snovely, Nick Farmen and Grant Gideon were named All-SCAC, while Alonso Fernandez and Haluki Nakayama received honorable mention.

Snovely, a junior from Pearland, earned All-SCAC laurels for the third consecutive season. The 6-foot, 160-pounder was named SCAC Player of the Week three times and registered a 13-4 mark at No. 1 singles, which vaulted him as high as No. 11 in the ITA West Region singles rankings. Additionally, Snovely and Gideon were 16-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Farmen, a sophomore out of Highlands Ranch, Colo., picked up all-league honors for the second straight year. The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder was 13-6 between the top two singles positions. He netted an 11-3 ledger at No. 2 singles. Farmen also teamed up with three different doubles partners to log a 15-6 record. He was paired up with Rod Khansari 19 times at the third spot and the duo posted a 14-5 mark.

Gideon, a sophomore from San Angelo, was honored by the league office for the first time in his career. Gideon posted an 11-8 record in singles competition, including a 9-6 mark at the third spot. As the top doubles pair, Gideon and Snovely were ranked as high as eighth in the region.

Fernandez, a first-year player from Austin, led the Pirates in singles victories with a 15-4 record en route to honorable mention. Nakayama, a first-year player from Houston, emerged as an everyday option in singles play for SU, logging a 13-7 mark.

Meanwhile, Farmen, Fernandez, Nakayama, Neik Khansari, Rod Khansari, Will Ellis and Sam McCready were named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team.

Southwestern completed the season with a 19-7 record, including an 18-4 mark against regional opponents. The Pirates sit at No. 11 in the current West Region rankings and reached the SCAC Championship Match for the second straight season.
