Pirates sweep Tornados on Wednesday night

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team earned its third consecutive victory with a 9-0 decision against Concordia Texas on Wednesday night at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.

The Pirates (9-5) held off the Tornados (3-7) in doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 advantage. Nick Farmen and Rod Khansari posted an 8-0 victory at the third spot to start the contest.

Grant Gideon finished off Victor Escalon in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to give Southwestern a 4-0 lead.

Farmen followed with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles to clinch the match for SU.

Haluki Nakayama tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth position, while Nickoloz Snovely beat Gabriel Burundi in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at the top spot in a battle of regionally-ranked foes.

Ayinde Hall cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, while Alonso Fernandez finished off the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the fifth position.

Southwestern will resume action on Tuesday, March 29, in a road tilt at Howard Payne. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Brownwood.
