Men’s tennis closes fall at Doc Skogman Invite

SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team closed out its fall season with a solid showing from doubles teams at the Doc Skogman Invitational over the weekend.

Trevor Searle and Armando Garcia marched all the way to the championship match in "C" Draw doubles, but fell to Louisiana College's duo of Marquez and Arnold, 8-4.

In "B" Draw doubles Derek Grass and Alvaro Rojas bounced back from an opening round loss to advance to the consolation finals on Saturday with a win over the duo from Texas Lutheran. However the Pirate tandem came up just short, 8-6, against the duo from Our Lady of the Lake, Gallardo and Galaviz.

Searle also found his way into the third place match after an opening round win against Kyle Thompson of Texas Lutheran. However the Brownsville native fell to Tanis Martinez, 6-4, 6-4 in the third place match on Saturday morning.

Also bouncing back for a final win on the weekend was Alvaro Rojas who won his 7th Place match 6-1, 6-3, over AJ Gallardo.

The invitational ends the Pirates fall individual season as they prepare for the spring NCAA team season in February.
