Pirate men fall in SCAC opener

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwestern University men's tennis team dropped its opening match 5-0 of the 2014 SCAC Men's Tennis Championships against Colorado College Friday morning.

Facing off for the second time in less than a week the Tigers were able to jump out to an early lead and clinch the match against the Pirates. Southwestern will move to the consolation bracket to face No. 7 seed Centenary as Colorado College moves on to face No. 2 seed Texas Lutheran.

In doubles action the Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead taking No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by identical 8-2 scores. Edward Yu and Alvaro Rojas pushed the Tigers at No. 2 doubles before falling 8-6.

Derek Grass fell to Jack Burger 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 position as Zayn Evans came up short at the No. 6 singles position. Evans dropped his match, 6-0, 6-0 as the contest was ended with the taking the 5-0 win.

The Pirates and Gents will face off Saturday at 8 a.m. on the campus of host Trinity. A win would give the Pirates a shot at the loser of Austin College and Schreiner in the fifth place game.
