Men’s tennis falls to Colorado College

GEORGETOWN – The Southwestern University men's tennis team dropped its regular season finale Sunday, 6-3, to visiting Colorado College at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.

The Pirates fell to 6-7 on the season while Colorado College improved to 9-7 with the win.

Southwestern jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles action as Niko Snovely and Derek Grass won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. It was the seventh win for the tandem all coming at the No. 1 doubles position.

Zayn Evans and Egan Cornachione helped the Pirates take that early lead as they won their second consecutive doubles match of the season to improve to 2-0. Evans and Cornachione won the No. 3 doubles match 8-3.

Heading into singles action the Pirates would get their final point at No. 1 singles as Niko Snovely knocked off Jason Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-2. Snovely, a first-year who has played in all but one match for the Pirates, improved to 11-1 on the season with the only loss coming to nationally ranked UT-Tyler.

The Pirates look to regroup Friday and Saturday as they head to San Antonio for the 2014 SCAC Tennis Championships in San Antonio.
