Men's Swim Team Shows Promise in Season Opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Southwestern University Pirates men's swimming and diving team fell short 23 points to Colorado College by a score of 157-134 this Sunday afternoon at Schlessman Natatorium.

The loss was largely due to the fact that Southwestern had no diving competitors, while Colorado gained 18 of their points in diving. In their first season meet, the Pirates dominated the men's 200-yard medley relay with Carter Duncan, Alek Argueta, Caleb Pfiefer and Keith Gill as the anchor who won with a time of 1:39.33. Also in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay Pfiefer, Gill, Dylan Neumann and Todd Coachman won first with a time of 1:29.31.

Alek Argueta had a great season opener, winning two events in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.66 and the men's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.74. Pfiefer, who helped both of the men's relays, also snagged a personal win in men's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.23.

Other winners for the Pirates were Connor Moland who won first in the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 57.19, Sean Calvert who won the Men's 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:16.67 and Drew Anderson who won first in the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 22.52

Up next, the men's swim team will get ready to take on the Austin College Roos in Sherman, Texas Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.
