Men's Soccer Extends Win Streak, Defeats Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates men's soccer team continued its recent tear, bringing its win streak to six with a 2-0 victory over the Schreiner University Mountaineers.

Southwestern dominated possession of the ball the entirety of the match, taking an 11-3 advantage against Schreiner and a 10-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Pirates broke through on their first shot of the afternoon with seniors Logan Jenkins and Wil Mekelberg teaming up on the game-winner. It was Jenkins' first goal of the season and Mekelberg's second assist.

Southwestern got an insurance goal midway through the second half when Ashton Bynum scored an unassisted goal at the 78:10 mark. The Pirates held Schreiner without a corner kick in the second half and limited the Mountaineers to just two shots in that span.

Jack Viles started for the Pirates at goalkeeper and stopped the lone Schreiner shot on goal for the match, picking up his third save of the season and improving his individual record to 2-0.

The Pirates will continue their run of non-conference matches against conference opponents with a road match at Trinity University on Sunday, Sep. 29 at 2:00 p.m.
