Pirates Fall To No. 10 Trinity University

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's soccer team dropped its second consecutive conference game, falling 3-1 to the Trinity University Tigers.

The 10th-ranked Tigers struck early and often, scoring within the first five minutes on a Quentin Van Der Lee goal four minutes and 43 seconds into the match. Trinity's Austin Michaelis followed with a pair of goals to give the Tigers three within the first 21 minutes of action.

Trinity kept the Pirates on their heels through much of the first half, outshooting Southwestern 11-4, including a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

The second half slowed with Southwestern holding Trinity to just five shots—all on goal—while attempting just three themselves.

Luis Ramirez helped end Trinity's shutout bid, threading a pass to lead Brendan Dauth into an open shot with Dauth finding the back of the net with less than two minutes remaining in the match. It was Dauth's third goal of the season and Ramirez's second assist.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 6-3-1 in the season and 4-2-1 in conference while Trinity improves to 9-1-1 and 7-1 in conference play. Southwestern will hit the road for a conference game against Centenary College (1-10-2) in Shreveport, Louisiana. Southwestern and Trinity will meet again on Oct. 23 in San Antonio.
