Pirates Take Another Conference Win Against TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – An outstanding defensive effort combined with a second-half goal by Dejan Savic led the Southwestern men's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Texas Lutheran on Tuesday. The Pirates are still undefeated in the month of September.

Southwestern's team defense shined in a game where the Pirates allowed just six shots with zero shots on goal. Just approximately three minutes into the second half, Savic scored the game's only goal. Alex Newell assisted Savic's shot from twenty-five yards out.

In the first half, Southwestern took six shots including one by Savic that was saved by Texas Lutheran goalkeeper Brendan Soto and other near misses by Kip Karschnik and Newell. While the Pirates maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the half, the game would remain tied 0-0 at halftime.

Southwestern regained momentum early in the second half with Savic's goal in the 49th minute of action. The Pirates came close to a second goal with Lowell's shot went wide and Theo Peristic's shot going high. The second half saw many fouls called along with two yellow cards given out. Texas Lutheran had one last chance to even the score in the 82nd minute when a shot by Braulio Adam went wide. Southwestern's Savic had two more chances late in the game with one shot hitting the post while the other went wide.

The Pirates are now 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in SCAC play. During the past six games, Southwestern has only allowed two goals. Goalie Sam Laude played all ninety minutes and improved to 3-0 for the 2018 season.

Up next, Southwestern returns home to face Centenary (La.) for a 7:00 p.m. conference game Friday, Sept. 21.
