Houten and Dauth Help Pirates Top Concordia Texas

Houten and Dauth Help Pirates Top Concordia Texas

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern men's soccer team once again shows their resilience in a  2-1 win over Concordia Texas late Friday evening.

While showing their abilities to hold steady on the defense, offensively Brendan Dauth and Garrison Van Houten helped seal the Pirates win by scoring the team's two goals. Dauth, who was named as the first 2018 SCAC defensive player of the week, set the tone of the game by scoring his first goal of the season within 11 minutes into the first half. From last week's win against No. 19 Rutgers-Newark, the Pirates gained momentum after Dauth's goal.

However, Concordia would answer back with a goal by Joel Abrego making the score 1-1 going into the half. Starting the second half, the Pirates kept up with a strong defense, led by goalie Sam Laude, who had a total of five saves from the box. With the defense steady, Houten would then head the ball into the net to pull the Pirates ahead of the Tornados. After this goal the Tornados tried to make a last minute goal but could not get past the Pirates defense, ending the game with a 2-1 win for Southwestern.

Due to weather, the game planned on Sunday, Sept. 9, has been canceled and the Pirates will resume with a 7 p.m. home game against Schreiner University next Tuesday, Sept. 11.
