Thomas White (1996-2016)

It is with deep sadness that we report the recent death of Southwestern University men's soccer student-athlete Thomas White, who was involved in a tragic accident at Barton Creek Greenbelt on Monday.

"Hearts are very heavy at Southwestern today," President Edward B. Burger said. "Thomas was a beloved member of our community, and he will be deeply missed. Please join us in allowing Thomas' family to privately grieve, while keeping them in your thoughts."

"The entire men's soccer program at Southwestern is saddened to learn the news of Thomas' sudden passing," Pirates head coach Don Gregory said. "He will be remembered for his free spirit and large sense of adventure. The Southwestern community extends their thoughts and respects to his family."

Members of the Southwestern community are encouraged to reach out for counseling as needed and offer support and care for one another, especially during this time of loss. A counselor on-call or the chaplain may be reached at (512) 863-1944.

A native of Hurst, Texas, White played two seasons on the Southwestern men's soccer team. He was named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll and earned the Southwestern Director of Athletics Academic Excellence Award last fall.

Funeral arrangements for White will be announced at a later date.
