Pirates dominate; still fall to Mountaineers

KERRVILLE, Texas – Southwestern allowed just three shots in the game, but Schreiner still got the win 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates had full control of the match in the first half, taking seven shots and earning six corner kicks while allowing Schreiner just one shot and two corner kicks. Southwestern was aggressive early but held at bay by two offside calls in the first two and a half minutes.

Despite the deluge of shots, the Pirates weren't able to put one in the back of the net as the game rolled into the break scoreless.

Southwestern came out of halftime strong once again but it was Schreiner that got on the board as Gregg Guittierez scored his first goal of the season, unassisted, in the 60th minute.

Southwestern pressed hard but couldn't put home the equalizer as the final buzzer sounded.

The Pirates fall to 5-9-1 on the year and 5-5-1 in the SCAC while Schreiner improves to 6-7 overall and 4-7 in conference action. Southwestern remains in third place in the SCAC, a half-game ahead of Dallas. The two will face off Friday in Georgetown at 6 p.m.
