Pirates drop home opener 3-0

Pirates drop home opener 3-0

GEORGETOWN, Texas – UT Dallas scored two first half goals and one in the second half to hand Southwestern their first loss at home.

Southwestern seemed to have the game under control early with numerous, well-executed attacks, and spent most of the opening minutes in the attacking third of the field.

UT Dallas was the first to strike, however, with an unassisted goal from Roman Rodriguez in the 23rd minute.

With less than a minute to play in the frame, UTD made it a 2-0 deficit for the Pirates as Luke Cotter cross the ball low across the face of the goal and found Will Collins who put the ball away.

A brilliant second half goal by Sam Konstanty gave the Comets a 3-0 lead in the 60th minute. His shot from 20 yards out lofted perfectly into the upper 90 and just out of reach of Travis Carmichael in goal.

Southwestern's offense just couldn't get a solid look at goal despite four corners and eight shots. Zach Faulkner logged two shots while Jacob Buckley had the only shot on goal for the Pirates.

Now 0-3 on the year, Southwestern will search for their first win as they take on Hardin-Simmons University at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
