No. 2: Men’s soccer ties program record for win; upsets Trinity

The 2013 Southwestern men's soccer team won 14 games for just the second time in program history and knocked off Trinity, 1-0, for the first win over the rival in program history.

Yes, it is fitting that on a day where the United States Men's Soccer Team faces on of its biggest matches, that we announce voting for our No. 2 Moment from the 2013-14 school year is Pirate soccer.

In his 16th year as head coach, Don Gregory earned his second SCAC Coach of the Year honor as Matthew Nickell was also tabbed SCAC Defensive Player of the Year. Steven Resnik, Daniel Poole and Nickell were also voted All-Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, while Poole earned Defensive MVP accolades during the SCAC Conference Tournament.

Southwestern finished 14-7-1 on the year, tying the most win in program history – 14 during the 2001 season. An 11-2-1 mark during conference play also set a program record for most conference wins, as the Pirates reached the SCAC Tournament Championship for a second consecutive season.
