GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates men's lacrosse team overwhelmed the Cornell College Rams with a career night from Zac Asbury, winning 22-4 at home. 

Southwestern scored two goals in rapid-fire succession with Jared Welsh finding Asbury after Cornell College failed to clear the ball, scoring the first goal with 13:16 on the clock. The Pirates' Achilles Armendariz won the ensuing face-off with the ground ball picked up by Blake Sterger and moved from Benjamin Libby to Asbury for his second goal in 30 seconds at the 12:47 mark. 

The Pirates added a third goal with 11:24 remaining in the first when a save by Southwestern goalie Alex Melitz led to a ground ball picked up by Tanner Wallace for a quick clear and pass from Asbury to Benjamin Libby for the goal within 10 seconds of the Pirates picking up possession. 

Logan Spalding added a fourth consecutive goal with 9:41 remaining in the first quarter on an assist from Sterger. 

The Rams finally got on the board on a goal from Kyle Jussila, whose leaping shots after circling around the net accounted for three of his team's four goals. Asbury responded by picking apart the Cornell defense for two more assists, finding Kai Knight-Turcan and Libby before Jussila scored the final goal of the first quarter, which ended with Southwestern leading 6-2. 

Asbury added two more goals and an assist in the second quarter as the Pirates accounted for five of the six goals for an 11-3 lead at the break. 

Southwestern expanded its lead in the third quarter, scoring eight goals while holding Cornell to a single Jussila goal with a man up to take a 19-4 lead into the fourth quarter. Two of the Pirates' third-quarter goals were with a man up, with Zach Taylor finding Asbury and Asbury finding Knight-Turcan. 

The Pirates slowed the game down in the fourth, turning to its bench and getting three goals from Tyler Talley from Jared Welsh, Jack Doloszycki from Jacob Hamilton, and Spalding from Nico Juarez. Backup goalie Patrick Sinclair allowed just one goal and Spencer Au entered the game and produced three saves on three shots in a little over five minutes. 

Asbury led the Pirates with a men's lacrosse school-record 14 total points, producing a career-high six goals on six shots and tying his career high with eight assists to just two turnovers. 

Southwestern dominated possession, winning 28 of the 29 face-offs with Armendariz going 16-for-17 and Zane Abbott a perfect 12-for-12. The Pirates also held a 36-10 advantage in ground balls, with a team-high eight coming from Tyle Santos, who also led the Pirates with three caused turnovers. 

With the win, the Pirates improve to 4-2 on the season and will host Swarthmore on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m.
