Men's Lacrosse Tops Huntington in Season Opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Pirates on Saturday marked their fifth consecutive win over Huntingdon in the program's history. The men continued their winning streak over the Hawks 20-11 in the season opener.

With less than five minutes into the first period, Jared Welsh made the Pirates first goal of the season, leading the Pirates to score another six goals before starting the second period. Zac Asbury lead the offense in the first period with two goals and two assists. While Huntingdon struggled to score, the Hawks would only make four goals before the end of the second half. Southwestern attacked Huntingdon's defense and score six more goals, three scored by Kai Knight-Turcan

Turcan led the team high with 4 goals, followed closely by Jack Doloszycki with three goals. Cody Foster, Logan Spalding, Asbury and Welsh all had big games with at least two points. Asbury had a career-high of eight assists and the team high with seven ground balls. Kyle Kuberski had a total of seven saves and Alex Melitz had three. 
 
Up next, the men's lacrosse team travels to Birmingham, Ala., Friday, Feb. 15 to take on Birmingham-Southern.
