Men's Lacrosse Closes Season with a Bang

Men's Lacrosse Closes Season with a Bang

GEORGETOWN, Texas - In their final game of the season the Southwestern men's lacrosse team put their best foot forward to defeat the University of Dallas 22-1 on Saturday afternoon.

It didn't take long for the Pirates to take control as Nick Sivon, assisted by Tyler Downing, scored five minutes into the game. Carter Cowan added three straight to close out the quarter and send SU into the second up 4-0.

As Southwestern picked up steam the scoring amped-up and SU punched in seven goals in both the second and third quarters to take a commanding 18 point lead into the final frame. With four more goals the Pirates turned their attention to converting the shutout, but Dallas' Cody Wooten kept it from becoming a reality as he scored with 1:07 left on the clock to arrive at the 22-1 final.

Southwestern dominated in shots (51-9), ground balls (38-23), and turnovers (27-17). Cowan, Downing and Jamie Long led the attack with five goals each. Donnie Murray (pictured) earned the win in goal. Daniel Ayala and Jake Phillips each recorded a team high six ground balls.

The Pirates end the 2012 season with a 5-11 overall record and 5-4 in the SCAC. This also marked the final home game for three seniors, Jack Parker, Chris O'Quain and Donnie Murray.
