Ruyle steps down as head men’s and women’s golf coach

After 15 years at the helm of the Southwestern men's and women's golf program, Dan Ruyle is stepping down as head coach.

Ruyle has taken the Pirates to new heights under his leadership with a consistent national presence. The Pirates have made eight national championship appearances in 15 years. Most recently, the men have made three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament from 2013-15, while the women went five consecutive years spanning 2006-2010 and again in 2013. The Southwestern women have the highest team finish bringing home bronze in 2008 while the men matched the women for the highest individual finish with Jordan Cowart finishing third in 2014 and Marisa Mauldin third in 2009.

Southwestern has been a powerhouse at the conference level under Ruyle as he led the women to four SCAC titles and five individual champions while the men have one conference championship. He has been named SCAC Coach of the Year four times while also being selected WGCA Great Lakes Coach of the Year in 2008.

"I would like to thank Dr. Munt and Southwestern for taking a chance on me 15 years ago. It has been a wonderful ride here. I have met so many great people at SU and in the Georgetown community."

Along with numerous golfers earning GCAA and NGCA Scholar All-Americans, he has seen six women and one male earn All-America honors. Every season Ruyle has had players named to the SCAC All-Conference team as the total reached 15 First Team selections on the women's side and eight on the men's side.

"I have coached some wonderful student-athletes while at SU. These players have taken Southwestern golf to a level of competing with the best teams in the country. I will certainly miss my current players. I wish them all the best and I hope former SU golfers will continue to support this proud tradition."

Coach Ruyle is not only involved with his team, but is involved in the administration of college golf. He served a five year term on the NCAA Men's Golf Championships Committee and was the chair of the committee his last two years. He is also very involved with the GCAA and NGCA. He is currently serving on both associations poll committees and was recently named the Division III Director for the GCAA.

Coach Ruyle received his BBA in Marketing from West Texas A&M University in the summer of 1997. He was also a member of the golf team for one season while at WTAMU.
