As we head toward the Southwestern University football season opener on Sept. 5, at Hardin-Simmons, we will preview the squad, by position. Today, we take a look at the wide receivers and tight ends with assistant coach Garrett Winsett.

Aug. 27 – Offensive line
Aug. 28 – Defensive line
Aug. 29 – Running backs
Aug. 30 – Linebackers
Aug. 31 – Wide receivers/tight ends
Sept. 1 – Defensive backs
Sept. 2 – Special teams
Sept. 3 – Quarterbacks

The wide receivers are led by a pair of first-team All-SCAC returners, in juniors Matt Gillen and Micah Sherman. Add Dante Smith and Kenneth Wynn Jr. to the fold and Winsett says this group is one that covers all layers of the passing game for the Pirates.

In addition to the wide receivers, Brandon Fleischmann, a 2013 honorable-mention All-SCAC performer, returns to help put pressure on opposing defenses.
