Southwestern football position preview: Defensive line

Southwestern football position preview: Defensive line

As we head toward the Southwestern University football season opener on Sept. 5, at Hardin-Simmons, we will preview the squad, by position. Today, we sat down with defensive line coach Kenneth Eboh to talk about his unit. Below is a schedule of the position previews.

Aug. 27 – Offensive line
Aug. 28 – Defensive line
Aug. 29 – Running backs
Aug. 30 – Linebackers
Aug. 31 – Wide receivers/tight ends
Sept. 1 – Defensive backs
Sept. 2 – Special teams
Sept. 3 – Quarterbacks

Eboh's group is led by two-time, first-team All-SCAC defensive end Justin Broussard, who has finished second in the league in sacks the past two seasons. On the other side of the line, Brandon Fleischmann will help provide another powerful bookend.

Meanwhile, Eboh and head coach Joe Austin will rely upon Isaiah Galvan and Kyle Perlowski to anchor the middle of the defensive line.

In the Pirates' 4-3 alignment, Jesus Lucero Jr. and Triston Beadle also will compete for time at the tackle spot.

"Our task is fairly simple, when it comes down to it," Eboh said. "See ball, attack ball."

Eboh proclaimed the defensive line to be one of the strengths of this year's Southwestern club.
