#7: Football earns their first win since reinstatement; defeating Sul Ross State 27-20

Southwestern opened their second season after reinstatement on a high note, posting their first win in the new era with a 27-20 victory over Sul Ross State on September 13th.

It was a memory that will last a lifetime. With the help of four interceptions on defense the Southwestern University football team made history. Southwestern twice rallied back to take the lead including the decisive score when Bryan Hicks found Justin Pelt near the goal line and carried it inside the pylon to put the Pirates up 27-13 midway through the third quarter.

No play might have been bigger however than the pressure that came from the defensive line on the final drive for Sul Ross. Southwestern got pressure on each play of the drive holding the Lobos on fourth-and-four and their final pass fell incomplete giving the Pirates their first win.

The Pirates ended the season at 1-8 on the year with narrow losses to Trinity (22-19) and Austin College (20-13).
