Rogers and Kelly earn national player of the week honors

MILLTOWN, N.J. – Honors continued for Tanner Rogers Tuesday as he was joined by Nik Kelly as a Dream Bowl Player of the Week presented by Cutting Edge Sports Management for their outstanding play on defense last week.

Rogers who was also named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week by the league office, was tabbed as a national player of the week by The Dream Bowl after helping the Pirates cause seven turnovers in a 27-20 win.

The Bedford, Texas, native finished with a game-high 11 tackles and had a huge presence in the backfield and secondary coming through with a pick-six; however the return for a touchdown was waived off, but still set up a Pirate touchdown just two plays later. Rogers also added one sack and four tackles for loss with two quarterback hurries in the Pirate victory.

Kelly finished the game with two interceptions setting up Pirate touchdowns. The sophomore also added five tackles in the win and had a fumble recovery with three pass breakups.
