GEORGETOWN – Head Coach Joe Austin and the Southwestern University football team has announced the 2014 schedule after being among the nation's leaders in attendance last season.
Southwestern will again play all five home dates at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex/Birkelbach Field. Season tickets sales will begin in the next few weeks as a new online ticketing system will debut in 2014 with the addition of single game tickets. More information on dates will be posted as the new ticketing process nears completion.
The Pirates will open the season with back-to-back home games in 2014. The season opener on September 6 will see the Cowboys from Hardin Simmons head to Georgetown for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Birkelbach Field. Southwestern will again play all five home dates at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex/Birkelbach Field.
For the first time ever Southwestern and Sul Ross State will meet on the football field September 13 for 1 p.m. kickoff. The meeting between the Pirates and Lobos will also be Military Day, where all current and former members of the armed forces will receive a free ticket for their selves and immediate family.
Southwestern will hit the road for the first time Sept. 20 at East Texas Baptist, followed by the end of a home and home series at Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 27.
The Pirates get their first look at SCAC teams October 4 as the Pirates host Austin College at 3 p.m. - but will not count in the official league standings - before a meeting Oct. 11 against NCAA-II member Oklahoma Panhandle State at 1 p.m.
October 4 will also be Hometown Hero Day, as members of the surrounding communities' police, fire, EMTs and public works teams will be invited with their families for free admission as the Pirates battle the 'Roos.
The Pirates get their first look at Trinity as they travel to San Antonio for a non-conference battle with the Tigers before a bye week. Southwestern will then open the final month of the season with conference action beginning on the road at Austin College Nov. 1 before returning home to host Trinity for Homecoming Nov. 8 with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
Southwestern will close out the 2014 season at Texas Lutheran in the only meeting between the defending SCAC Champion. The Bulldogs swept through the SCAC last season to claim the league championship in their first season in the league.
The Pirates will return eight all-conference honorees from last season including three first-team selections. Spring practice for the Pirates is set to begin March 24 in the first of the 15 NCAA allowed team practices before heading to Germany as part of a study abroad program that will included games against professional teams.
