Erwin earns SCAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Southwestern University punter, Michael Erwin, was tabbed SCAC Player of the Week Monday as announced by the league office.

Erwin played a critical role helping the Pirate defense with 10 punts against Oklahoma Baptist Saturday. He placed three punts inside the 20-yard line and had a long of 51-yards while averaging 41.4 yards per punt. Erwin also recorded two tackles on defense helping in the secondary for Southwestern.

The first-year punter from Portland, Texas is the third Pirate to receive Player of the Week honors as Erwin picked up the first special teams honor. It it's the fourth time overall a Pirate has been honored this season as Colten Shea has earned offensive honors twice and Tyler Frisby on defense once.

The Pirates continue a three-game home stand as they host Trinity Saturday in a scheduled non-conference match-up. Kickoff from Birkelbach Field is set for 1 p.m.
