Frisby named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Southwestern University earned its second player of the week honors to open the season as linebacker Tyler Frisby was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week  nnounced by the league office Monday.

A 6-0, 190-pound linebacker from Justin, Texas, Frisby led the Pirates for a second week in a row with 12 tackles – 10 of which were solo tackles in a 32-14 loss to Bacone College. The first-year linebacker also added 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss for 19 yards as he helped the Pirates defense force three turnovers and give Southwestern its first lead going into halftime since 1950.

As a team the Pirates recorded one interception and two fumble recoveries and added two sacks on night. The Pirates also wreaked havoc in the Bacone backfield finishing with seven tackles for a loss.

Southwestern returns home to face American Southwest Conference foe, East Texas Baptist, Saturday at Birkelbach Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
