Men's Basketball Picks Up Second Win Over Trinity
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After a rough patch in the season with three consecutive losses on the road, men's basketball snapped back to break the streak and take the second conference win over the Trinity Tigers. 
 
In the first minute of the game, Trinity attacked the boards, with a layup and three-point shot off a turnover. Southwestern was quick to jump back with seven unanswered points in the next minute of the game.
 
After a quick start in the game, Luke Hicks and Mike May came off the bench and gave the Pirates offense momentum as Hicks puts up four points and May sank a three to make the score 19-12. 
 
Southwestern kept Trinity trailing for the rest of the half.  Joel Martinez lead the half with 10 points, followed by Brandon Alexander with nine and May with eight. The Pirates left the half with the score 54-32.
 
The Pirates hit 64.5% from the field and went 11-19 (57.9%) from three-point range in the first half.
 
Going into the second half Alexander lit up the boards going making four three-pointers for the Pirates followed by Andrew Ouhl who tacked on two three's to give the Pirates the advantage the rest of the second half. Trinity trailed by 20 or more points for most of the period, giving  Southwestern the win needed to bounce back into conference play. The Pirates now stand as the fourth seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)  
 
Notable players include Alexander, who was the high scorer for both teams, totaling 25 points and seven rebounds. Puhl had 13 points and Martinez had 12 points and nine assists. Coming off the bench, May helped the Pirates lead in the first half with eight of his 10 points in the game.   
 
With three games left before the conference championships, Southwestern will get ready for their last away game in Seguin, Texas, against Texas Lutheran on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
