Brandon Alexander Named SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Brandon Alexander of the Southwestern University Pirates Men's Basketball team was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Player of the Week for games played from Dec. 17 through Jan. 6. 

The Pirates went 2-1 over the holiday break, with a non-conference loss to UT-Tyler and conference wins over Centenary and Schreiner. 

In the three games, Alexander averaged 18.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Against Centenary, Alexander scored a season-high 27 points, shooting 11-for-19 from the field with six rebounds and three assists. He tied for the team-high with 13 points in a win over Schreiner, shooting 7-for-8 from the free-throw line to average 20 points per game on 48.3 percent shooting in the two SCAC games.

For the season, Alexander leads the Pirates in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Southwestern University is 7-6 this season, sitting alone atop the SCAC standings as the only undefeated team in conference play with a 4-0 record. 

This is Brandon Alexander's first SCAC Player of the Week award and the men's basketball team's first player of the week award this season.
